In ancient Korean times, it was believed that the body and spirit were one; that inner happiness was reflected on one’s face. This may explain why Korean women have been working on their skin’s radiance from as far back as AD 918.
If you've followed Savor Beauty or me for a while, you're familiar with our one-word affirmations on our bottles like "NOURISH" or "GLOW". By repeating these affirmations as intentions, each skincare application becomes a moment of inner empowerment.
Behind our Radiance Sun Milk's one-word affirmation, "PROTECT," lies a beautiful story that draws parallels between skin and spiritual interconnection.
PROTECT YOUR EPIDERMIS
We've all heard about the toxicity of sun damage: freckles, age spots, wrinkles, and even skin cancer over time.
There's nothing that I love more than sunshine for its serotonin and vitamin D-goodness. The aim is not to avoid but to shield ourselves from its harmful rays.
Enter Radiance Sun Milk, SPF 50+, a product that took us more than five years of rigorous testing and refinement. There were a lot of boxes to check off that other sunscreens were not meeting, and I had my own personal goals.
Our sunscreen is a labor of love that spans three generations: my mom, myself, and my daughter.
Inspired by my mom's love for the dewy and moisturized look championed by Korean beauty standards, we infused our sunscreen with hyaluronic acid for her.
As for me, I'm always on the lookout for ways to keep sun spots at bay. That's why we added brightening niacinamide to the formula.
And then there’s my daughter—entering her teenage years, she needed something that wouldn't cause breakouts.
So, we made sure our sunscreen is not only non-comedogenic and free of parabens and formaldehyde, but also uses non-nano UV filters. These are the kind of particles big enough that they won't seep into the epidermis, offering protection without the worry.
Lastly, our team at Savor Beauty includes passionate, eco-conscious skincare experts and seasoned estheticians.
They ensured our formula checked off the following boxes: no white cast, non-pore-clogging, and reef-safe, a win-win for both skin and environment.
Now you know why it took us so much time to birth this epidermis-protecting beauty into the world... but it was worth the wait!
In ancient Korean times, it was believed that the body and spirit were one; that inner happiness was reflected on one’s face.
PROTECT YOUR AURA
Before launching any product, we engage in a thoughtful process that includes choosing the one-word affirmation I mentioned above. Here's how we ultimately landed on PROTECT.
During this time, I had been taking my Kundalini Yoga certification course, and we were learning a beautiful protection mantra:
Aad Guray Nameh
Jugaad Guray Nameh
Sat Guray Nameh
Siri Guroo Dayvay Nameh
I honor ancient wisdom
I honor wisdom from all times
I honor true wisdom
I honor the unseen, deep wisdom.
This mantra of protection is recited to invoke the protective energy of the universe, and I was incorporating it into my yoga practice daily amidst the bustle of exciting preparations for the launch of Radiance Sun Milk.
Around the same period, my travels took me to the Middle East, where I was introduced to the concept of the evil eye. I’m not a superstitious person, and as a New Yorker, I am also very grounded (and suspicious of superstitious notions.)
Nonetheless, I found the age-old concept intriguing: the evil eye is believed to be a curse cast by someone who is envious of you, trying to send bad luck your way. It is believed that you can wear the blue evil eye jewelry to protect yourself against negative energy.
The blue color symbolizes positive energies such as creativity, motivation, commitment as well as protection against the evil eye. I'm still processing this concept, but the idea of protecting your aura is one I subscribe to!
This story involving an ancient belief in the evil eye, a soul-soothing yoga chant, and the life-giving energy of the sun beautifully merges practical skincare with a touch of spiritual magic.
Here's to protecting both aura and epidermis, allowing your natural radiance to glow. 🥂 xx, Angela
